St John Wedding in the Rain

Kissing in the Rain
April 21, 2010 on St. John, Trunk Bay, Antonia Lucchesi said, "I do" to Trevor DeAndero in the beautiful, warm Caribbean rain. The wedding was hosted by Beach Weddings by Deb, photos by Crown Images, video by Hi Definition Video, flowers by Passion Flowers St. John, Brett Omara played the violin, catering Passion Fruit Chefs and the reception was hosted at Amorosa Villa.
Beach destination brides always want to know what will happen if it rains on their wedding day. Here in the US Virgin Islands it will rain almost every day, but it never last very long, it passes with the big fluffy cloud that brought the shower and the sunshine comes back out. There are the rare occasions where it will rain a little longer, as it did on April 21 at 5:00 p.m. at Antonia and Trevor's wedding ceremony. I was so impressed at how they handled the rain; they decided the ceremony must go on and exchanged their rings under a parasol, after they where married and everyone congratulated them, most of the guests went up to the villa and some of the family members stayed behind with us to make these beautiful photographs on the Trunk Bay beach.
It's true, there is nothing more romantic then kissing in the rain, well maybe kissing your husband for the first time in the rain, on one of the most beautiful beach's in the world. The sun did pop out from behind the clouds long enough to give us a beautiful sunset.
Trash the Dress on St. John in the US Virgin Islands

FEARLESS BRIDES
The trend of "Trash the Dress" T.T.D. started somewhere in the early 2000's where brides just didn't care if something happened to "the dress," and photographers started to book photo sessions based on this idea. There are many different levels of trashing the dress and can very from just getting it sandy on the beach and be able to have it cleaned or going all the way, and setting it on fire and cleaning is no longer an option. Some brides want to T.T.D. because it will only be worn once and they desire to make great photographs without being restricted by the dress getting dirty. Other brides want to show their husbands that they are "the one and only" to see them in the dress and are fully committed. And then there are some brides that are in love with T.T.D. and with the dress and get a second dress or just hope for the best with the dry cleaning and don't get too wild with T.T.D.
Being a destination wedding photographer in the US Virgin Islands, where almost all of my weddings are on the beach and the brides dress, will get sand on it, I don't like this term, "Trash the dress." The term always makes me think of a "bridezilla" marrying a Tasmanian Devil, this would be a photographers nightmare. My brides are "destination brides" and by definition they are adventurous, and have traveled all the way down to the Caribbean to have a fun and "non traditional" wedding celebration, so by nature of the wedding being on the beach there is always an element of T.T.D. in my photography process. I think the appropriate term for my bride is a "Fearless Bride." She is not going to get upset if there is sand on her dress, in-fact the first thing she wants to do is kick off her shoes and get her feet in the turquoise ocean water of the Caribbean.
Every now and then, I get a bride and groom like Angela and Gene, where they need to stick more then their toe in the ocean: they need to jump in. They wanted to have fun and make candid photographs of them in the ocean, relaxed and really enjoying the destination choice of their wedding. Angela and Gene opted to have a T.T.D. photo session the morning after their wedding at Hawksnest Bay Beach on St. John, and wow did we have a great time making these photographs.
Angela's beautiful dress has been dry cleaned and still is in great condition.
